Cosmetic Dermatologic Procedures
Botox
The Dermatology and Laser Center has used Botox for more than 11 years and is proud to be a member of the Platinum Botox Cosmetic Injection Team since 2004, putting our facility in the top 1 percent of all doctors' practices in the United States and Europe. Botox Cosmetic ® is a revolutionary, non-surgical treatment used to temporarily smooth mild to severe frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead wrinkles. Botox Cosmetic ® is the only treatment of its kind approved by the FDA. One 10 to 15 minute treatment, comprised of a few minor injections, relaxes the facial muscle contractions that cause wrinkles to develop over time. You will see results within mere days, and the effects can last for 4 to 6 months. Millions of people have become Botox Cosmetic ® devotees over the years, feeling that this simple procedure appears to almost reverse the aging process.
Restylane
Restylane ® is a natural and safe cosmetic filler that is composed of hyaluronic acid, a compound found in the human body. It works by binding with water molecules to fill in laugh lines (nasolabial folds), facial lines, wrinkles, lips, and recessed scars, restoring volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane is a safe, extremely effective cosmetic procedure that can last for up to six months. Performed by using a series of small injections, patients are numbed prior to the procedure, and cold packs are applied immediately after the injections. Some bruising and light swelling might occur immediately after the procedure, but usually subside within 48 hours.
Juvéderm
Juvéderm T is the newest, most talked about injectible filler produced by Allergan Inc., the makers of Botox Cosmetic ®. Juvéderm is smooth, gel filler with the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid, combined with a special formulation process that makes it ideal to correct wrinkles, laugh lines (nasolabial folds), lips, recessed scars, and to restore volume to the face. Results can last up to 6 months. Performed by using a series of small injections, patients are numbed prior to the procedure. Some bruising and light swelling might occur immediately after the procedure, but usually subside rapidly. If needed, cold packs can be applied immediately after treatment.
Collagen
Collagen, one of the first injectible fillers, is a naturally occurring protein that supports the skin, joints, bones, and ligaments in your body. Collagen injected into lines, wrinkles, facial, and body scars is composed of purified bovine collagen. Performed by using small needles at the treatment site, it is primarily used to enhance lips and to reduce facial wrinkles. However, collagen is also helpful in reducing imperfections on the neck, back, and chest. Minor pain may occur at the injection site, but results can last from 3 to 6 months. Depending on the type of collagen used, patients may need to undergo an allergy test prior to treatment.
Fat Transfer
With the aging process comes the deterioration of facial tissue that results in the thinning of the face. Fat transfer uses the body's own tissue to restore fat to specific areas. By using your body's own tissue, you eliminate the chance of your body rejecting the tissue. Fat transfer improves contour problems and helps to rectify deformities from prior surgeries. In combination with liposuction, fat that has been extracted from one part of the body can be used to fill out other areas of the face and body. Fat can be stored in the freezer for touch-up treatments if required. Patients can expect minor discomfort, bruising, swelling, and redness in the affected sites, which will get better within a few days. The recovery period is minimal, depending on the amount of fat transferred.
Sculptra
Sculptra® is an injectible product that restores and fixes signs of facial fat loss, working to replace lost volume. Lipoatrophy is the loss of facial fat loss that occurs beneath the skin, often resulting in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. Providing a gradual, substantial increase in the skin's thickness, Sculptra vastly improves the look of folds and sunken areas. Sculptra results, while not immediate, are very long-lasting. Clinical studies have shown that effects from Sculptra can last for up to two years after the first treatment session.
TCA Chemical Peel
A TCA Chemical Peel restores sun-damaged cells, removes pre-cancerous areas and stimulates collagen formation for a healthier, younger-looking complexion. The aging process slows down the speed at which our skin renews itself, and chemical peels assist in the return of the translucent, radiant look that young skin boasts. A specially formulated, concentrated chemical solution is placed on the skin, and after 7 to 10 days of peeling, your new skin will appear fresh, clear and rejuvenated. At times, the peeling process can take up to two weeks. People of all ages will benefit from a TCA peel, however not all skin types are ideal for this procedure
Glycolic (AHA) Peel
The Glycolic Peel consists of a uniquely formulated concentrate of glycolic, a group of naturally occurring substances often referred to as "fruit acids," as glycolic is a nontoxic product derived from sugar cane. When glycolic acid is applied to skin, it breaks up the "glue" that keeps dead cells on the skin's surface. During this treatment, glycolic acid is gently applied to the skin. And after 1 to 2 days mild peeling occurs, followed by glowing, beautiful skin. Normal activities can be carried out the day after this peel.
The Diamond Peel
The Diamond PeelT skin renewal treatment erases skin layers at varying depths in a precise manner, minimizing skin trauma. It's not a chemical peel or a laser treatment; rather it's a safe, gentle and affordable process that smoothes and freshens your skin. The Diamond Peel™ works equally well on all colors of skin and virtually any area of the body and is effective in treating aging and sun-damaged skin, acne scars and acne, enlarged pores and pigmentation marks. A series of 6 treatments is recommended every 7 to 10 days.
Contour Laser Peel
The Contour Laser Peel is a non-invasive, gentle, micro laserabrasion treatment that removes the top part of the skin (stratum corneum), consisting of layers of dead, flattened cells, dead surface cells and brown spots. This improves the skin's texture, color, tone and overall appearance. This procedure is a laser microdermabrasion and is considered a "light laser peel." Slight redness or pinkness may be noticeable following the procedure and may remain for 1 to 5 days, depending on the strength of the micro laserabrasion. Monthly maintenance helps most patients improve skin health and appearance.
BETA Peel
The Beta Peel is a state-of-the-art chemical peel that has revolutionized the traditional peel. This treatment uses beta-hydroxy acid, takes a mere five minutes, and is used primarily to reduce acne lesions and shrink pores. The Beta Peel exfoliates dead and dull surface skin cells, stimulating a skin renewal and bringing healthy, young, living cells to the surface. Beta Peel is also able to penetrate skin follicles, making it a great option for the treatment of acne, acne scars, hyper pigmentation, and enlarged pores. Skin may peel for approximately 3 to 5 days.
Vitalize Peel
The Vitalize Peel is a highly effective rejuvenation procedure with no down time. This peel improves the overall appearance of the skin, decreases fine lines and restores even skin tones. The Vitalize Peel evens out acne scarring, lightens hyper pigmentation (melasma and photodamage) and tightens pores. A unique blend of alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, resorcinol and retinoic acid are used, which are available only to physicians. Results are noticeable after just one peel. However, after a series of peels the results are dramatic.
Jessner's Peel
The Jessner Peel is a medium depth peel designed for more extensive damage than alpha-hydroxy acids can improve. The Jessner's solution is made from salicylic acid, lactic acid and resorcinol. A glycolic solution will be applied all over your face to fully remove oils and stratum corneum (the outer most layer of the skin) so that the Jessner's solution will penetrate properly. Skin will peel for 3 to 7 days. After healing, the patient's skin will have a smooth appearance.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is the standard treatment for varicose and spider veins located on the legs. By injecting a saline mixture into the vein with a needle, the vein collapses and is gradually absorbed by the body. At the end of the treatment regimen, the veins are much less visible on the surface. Sclerotherapy can also relieve symptoms associated with enlarged veins and prevents further complications. The procedure is almost painless, but the patient will experience bruising for 1 to 2 weeks. It does not prevent new veins from appearing, and may require more than one session. We do not recommend major traveling after a treatment for at least two weeks.
Permanent Makeup
Micro-Pigmentation (permanent makeup) is a procedure that has been used successfully in medicine for more than a century. The carefully chosen pigment is placed in a predetermined shape, color, and thickness by using special equipment developed especially for this purpose. Micro-Pigmentation is commonly used as eyeliner, lash liner, eyebrow, or lip liner. Patients are able to lead an active lifestyle without ever worrying about smeared, smudged, or runny makeup. A topical anesthetic is used during the 2-hour procedure, and yearly touchups are recommended. The recovery time is only 24 hours.
Thread Lift
Thread Lifts are ideal for patients seeking a younger appearance of the mid-face and brow and don’t want to undergo a face or brow lift. This is a new, minimally invasive procedure that uses FDA-approved Contour Threads™—thin, colorless, flexible sutures threaded underneath the skin from the ear to the hairline. This procedure rejuvenates sagging foreheads, eyebrows, and cheeks. By gently pulling the threads, sagging tissue is lifted into a subtly higher, more youthful position mimicking the patient's natural facial contours. The sutures are kept in position to maintain the effects that are enhanced further as time goes by, and the body produces natural collagen and elastin fibers around the threads. The procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours under local anesthesia.
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
PDT is the latest advance in the fight against signs of sun damage, especially brown discoloration, age spots, redness, and pre-cancerous skin lesions (actinic keratoses). PDT also treats moderate to severe acne and sebaceous hyperplasia by shrinking sebaceous glands in the skin. PDT is photo sensitizing and may be performed in a series. After treatment, sun exposure must be avoided for 48 hours.
BLU-U
BLU-U is a special blue light that kills the skin’s bacteria that causes acne. This treatment is very safe, painless, and it typically takes less than 20 minutes. BLU-U was approved by the FDA in 2003 for the treatment of moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris. The treatment must be performed in a series of sessions, usually twice a week for four weeks and is often combined with traditional prescription.
